High Foundation Announces Essence of Humanity Award Recipients

Lancaster, Pa., January 20, 2026 — High Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the Essence of Humanity Awards, a recognition honoring individuals and caregivers who, beyond the requirements of their work, demonstrate remarkable courage, love, and persistence in the face of life's adversities. Two awards are presented annually at Crispus Attucks Community Center’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast in coordination with Community Action Partnership. The honorees at this year’s breakfast are Dr. Clark McSparren and Mr. Aaron Swinton.

High Foundation is honored to recognize Dr. Clark McSparren for his lifelong dedication to improving the health and well‑being of children and families across Lancaster County. In 2003, he answered a call for volunteers in the Lancaster General Hospital newsletter and began serving as a volunteer physician at the school‑based clinic at Carter & MacRae Elementary School, expanding his commitment to caring for children in Lancaster City.

Dr. McSparren has also contributed to broader community well‑being. He served 12 years as Medical Director for Community Action Partnership’s Head Start program and co‑founded the Lancaster County Committee on Child Abuse, demonstrating leadership and compassion in advocating for vulnerable children. High Foundation proudly recognizes Dr. McSparren for his enduring impact and lifelong dedication to service.

Additionally, High Foundation is honored to recognize Aaron Swinton, principal of Reynolds Middle School in Lancaster City. A proud graduate of the School District of Lancaster, Swinton’s journey from student to educational leader reflects his deep-rooted commitment to strengthening his community. As principal, Swinton has made Reynolds Middle School a place where every student—regardless of background—has an opportunity to succeed. Going beyond his normal duties, Swinton visits students' homes in challenging moments, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic, when an infrastructure issue closed the school, or when students are not showing up for school. Often, his visits are in the neighborhood where he grew up, helping him connect with students and their families.

Inspired by his own personal experiences, Swinton has emerged as a powerful advocate for equity and opportunity. High Foundation is proud to honor his work in empowering the next generation of Lancaster’s leaders.
